Assemblyman Jones Reacts to Governor Brown’s 2013 State of the State Address
SACRAMENTO – Assemblyman Brian Jones, R-Santee, today reacts to Governor Jerry Brown’s 2013 State of the State Address, saying the Governor painted a rosy picture of the current business climate, and looks forward to the Governor supporting Assembly Republican’s call for higher education tuition freezes, which will produce an affordable education to train California’s future innovators and creators.
“I agree 100 percent with the Governor on shifting education authority to the local level and also with his support of freezing tuition at California’s public universities,” Jones said.
Governor Brown looked back at the history of California, from the Civil War under President Lincoln, which brought the Transcontinental Railroad followed by “oil production, movies, an aircraft industry… Venture Capital, Silicon Valley, Hewlett Packard, Apple, Qualcomm, Google and countless others…” Assemblyman Jones emphasizes the importance of California’s innovative history but criticizes the failed policies that have paved the way for Californian’s demise.
“Right now, California is off track because of the stifling environmental regulations, the costly high speed rail project, over regulation, and the third highest tax rate in the nation. I agree with Governor Brown that California will return to the Golden State it once was, and we will overcome ignorance and resume again, but only under new leadership.”
“This is the second year Governor Brown pointed backwards at California’s success. He keeps bringing up that this is the future California will have, but is ignoring the current situation that those who brought their creativity to California are now leaving. What was once mass migration into the state has become mass emigration,” Jones added. “Californians should watch closely what will unfold in the months to come, and take part in the process that will affect not only their future, but the future of their sons and daughters.”
Assemblyman Brian Jones, Republican Caucus Chairman, represents the 71st Assembly District, which includes the communities of eastern San Diego County, including Alpine, Borrego Springs, Casa de Oro – Mount Helix, El Cajon, Lakeside, Ramona, Rancho San Diego, Santee and Spring Valley; and southern Riverside County, including Anza, Aguanga, Idyllwild-Pine Cove, Lake Riverside and Mountain Center.
