KPBS published interviews with all the major San Diego mayoral candidates over the weekend. In Bonnie Dumans’s interview she revealed she’s “earned” her $200,000 pension but doesn’t think others should have one. See below:

District Attorney and mayoral candidate Bonnie Dumanis says when she retires, she stands to earn just under $200,000 for her pension. She also supports Proposition B, which would put an end to pensions for new city employees and give them 401(k)-style plans instead.

Dumanis told KPBS that after her career in public service, she feels she earned her pension, but said as mayor she would vote to end pensions for new employees.

“I worked for 38 years from a junior typist to prosecutor to superior court judge and district attorney, breaking many glass ceilings along the way,” she said. “But never was I in a position to make a decision about pensions or on my salary and as mayor I will be in that position.”

  1. Typical entitlement mentality ! NOBODY in public service deserves that kind of money ! They deserve what the average person in private industry gets and not a penny more. What nerve ! This is why I will never vote for Bonnie. The gravy train is over for people like you Bonnie. You killed the goose that laid the golden egg. San Diego City bankruptcy is just around the corner.

  2. I AM puzzled by the “under $200,000” pension Bonnie says she will get. Sounds low, from what I remember about county pensions. Is not her pension 3% of pay times number of years worked times highest salary — the standard for ALL county employees? (an INCREDIBLE giveaway)

Surely she is not retiring early, given that she has 38 years working for the county.

Given that she makes about $242,000, should not her pension be 90% of that (assuming it is capped at 30 years — it MIGHT not be) salary, the pension should be about $217,800? Perhaps this needs clarification — I honestly don’t know for sure what the story is here, or if my memory serves me correctly.

  3. Congrats Bonnie. Since my retirement to the desert, I have been threatened with death twice. I arrested a parolee in my house. Rider and the boys need their own cops .

Such hacks. So petty and uninformed. Must be hard to retain groupie status. I’d be happy with you or Filner as mayor. Both of you would do well. I suffered the loss with Ron Roberts too often, too painful.

I tell you, I no longer suffer fools……….
