Assemblyman Jeffries Endorses Waldron for State Assembly

Monday, August 15, 2011
posted by Assemblymember Marie Waldron

(Escondido, CA) – Escondido Councilwoman Marie Waldron announced her campaign received the endorsement of Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries.  Assemblyman Jeffries currently represents much of the newly created 75th Assembly district.  Jeffries is unable to run for re-election due to term limits. The announcement comes shortly after the state’s redistricting commission released the final draft of the legislative boundaries. Waldron is running in the newly created 75th Assembly district which is comprised mostly of northeast San Diego County, including: Escondido, San Marcos, Valley Center, Fallbrook, and other unincorporated portions of the county.  A quarter of the district also comes from Temecula and unincorporated portions of southwest Riverside County.

“Marie is a true conservative and has an impressive record of opposing tax increases in Escondido,” said Assemblyman Jeffries. “That record, coupled with her experience as a small business owner, will go a long ways in ensuring that the 75th district has an Assemblywoman who will always put taxpayers and small businesses first.”

“I am so proud to have the support of Assemblyman Jeffries,” said Waldron. “I look forward to following in his footsteps by fighting for the same common-sense fiscal conservatism that he fought so hard for in Sacramento.”

Waldron has amassed an impressive war chest – she recently showed over $100,000 cash-on-hand, and is the only declared candidate in the race.

Waldron formally launched her campaign for State Assembly in late March.  She is a small business owner and has served on the Escondido City Council since 1998. Waldron has been a staunch advocate for fiscal restraint and accountability while on the council, and has opposed all water rate and tax increases. 1. Jim Sills says:

This is an especially important plus for Councilwoman Waldron, since she will have to campaign in Temecula in the coming year to win the re-numbered 75th State Assembly district. Kevin Jeffries is well known among Inland Empire Republicans, in part owing to his 6 years as Riverside’s county Republican Chairman.

The new 75th district combines the eastern half of Martin Garrick’s existing seat (the 74th), with the southern part of Kevin Jeffries 66th AD. Marie Waldron’s Escondido home is right in the middle of the new seat’s map.

There will be a test on this later.
