An Evening of Pleasure… and PAIN
As readers know, a night with The Barkeep is always pleasurable (he’s insightful from decades in local politics) and painful (the next morning). I got up at 10am this morning. I usually get up at 6am. Enough said.
The Barkeep on redistricting:
“Everyone’s seen the Empower San Diego map now. It was b******t. If the commission approves something as obviously gerrymandered as this there is no point to having a commission – you might as well give the job of drawing the lines over to the labor unions. I think this whole good government process is nonsense, but if you are going to pretend to draw lines that really represent communities then do it and cut off the games from “nonpartisan” organizations like Empower San Diego. The political director of the damn labor council is on the board over there. Nonpartisan? Worse, one of the commissioners is a member too. Who are these judges that picked these people? How old are they? As old as me?”
The Barkeep on San Diego District 7:
“So now Johnnie Perkins is running around town telling anyone that’s not deaf he wants to run for city council in District 7. If I can think of a candidate more likely to put Marti Emerald back in the council I’ll let you know. Really Republicans? You gonna run a lobbyist against Emerald? Wasn’t this guy a lobbyist for the trash haulers? For the UNIONS too? And for the love of God wasn’t Perkins for Emerald the last time against April Boling? I can’t imagine Boling or her supporters, or the Republicans who took this one personally, are going to throw the doors wide open for him.
Early day for me today.

I thought Johnnie Perkins moved out of town.

So the San Francisco dwelling, trash hauling lobbyist Johnnie Perkins wants to run against Emerald even though he supported her in ’08.
I can’t imagine anyone worse for the center-right community to field.
Good grief.
Just so we’re straight, a bartender told a drunk that a guy is running for council, so it’s true. I see.
“during this campaign I switched my long-time standing as a Republican to Independent, not because I do not like Republicans, but because for me, elections come down to trust, not parties or ideology.” (Perkins – Mission Times Courier 10/15/08)
“Of course the question is who is telling us the truth? Well, I listened to both the tape of the radio show and the meeting at the USD College Democrats and Emerald never said she would raise taxes.” (Perkins – Mission Times Courier 4/21/08)
“I will let you decide where these candidates really stand on taxation, but in my review of the information, Emerald did not state she would ‘raise taxes.’” (Perkins – Mission Times Courier 4/21/08)
Hey Perkins it takes about five minutes on the Mission Times Courier website to see you ONLY WROTE FOR THE PAPER FOR THE LENGTH OF THE RACE.
Does Johnnie Perkins think any April Boling supporters have forgotten his quotes over and over in the mail from the firefighters union (oh that’s right Johnnie Perkins worked for the firefighters union right before he became a lobbyist for the trash companies… no reason to think his quotes were anything but innocent).
Johnnie let me be clear: there is only one candidate that I prefer less than Marti Emerald and that’s you.
I think Perkins has some serious explaining to do.
It is unclear to me whether JP lives in the city anymore… if memory serves he moved to the southwest. this is not to say he cant move back to run of course.
