Jim and I were classmates at Silvergate Elementary, Dana Jr. High and Point Loma High. He always told me he started his political career when he helped my successful election campaign for Dana school president in 1964 when we were 14.

In later years we got together for a poker game now and then, but he was very private and not "chatty." He was a discourser!

We lived in the same neighborhood, and I was always pleased to see him drive by in the same 1963 Chevy II that he drove in high school. He loved that silly car. He had installed a sign in the back window that he would light up when someone invaded his personal space on the freeway: "Y TAILGATE?"

Jim was a mentor, a good friend and confidant and a fellow Oriole fan. He will be missed and I will always remember one of my favorite pictures on my wedding day with Jim- both in suits, both wearing Oriole hats.

It's nice to know that Jimmy was so well liked, except by His political opponents. I want to Thank each and every one of You for the kind words about My Uncle. He was pretty special to Us also. He will be missed, He was a role model for all of Us. He always made Me feel good about what I do, and Always corrected My facts if they were wrong. Thanks again to You all.

Mr. Sills was the first to welcome me on SDrostra, and it was a warm welcome. I am so very sad. He and his family are in my prayers.

Jim Sills, RIP - always an encourager, quick with a kind word and so ready to support conservatives. Not another one like him. He will be sorely missed.

Jim Sills was an outstanding political activist his entire life. I remember him from his days at UCSD when he was a leader in Young Americans for Freedom, successfully fighting for the elimination of mandatory student fees. His involvement is cited in my book, A Generation Awakes: Young Americans for Freedom and the Creation of the Conservative Movement. Jim was truly an essential part of today's conservative movement and his efforts will live on.
